What is a Class?

Doors open 7.15pm, Beginners at Class 7.30pm

Learning anything new can be daunting. We keep the classes clear and simple, and they are done at a decent pace to keep you challenged and the adrenalin pumping. More importantly, we make them fun. The short classes and long freestyle format is what we believe will fast-track your path to being a fabulous freestyle dancer.

What is Nightclub Jive?

Nightclub Jive, aka Modern Jive is a partner dance that resembles many other forms of dance, think of the dance competition in Grease or those Salsa dancers you hear so much about. The big difference is that there is less foot-work to worry about and the learning time is much, much quicker. We will have you dancing on your first evening.

Whilst this is a partner dance, you do not need to bring your own partner. During the class you will practice the moves with many of the other class members (of the opposite sex!) as we 'rotate' you. Sounds complicated, but after the first time you are rotated, you will see how simple it is and how you get to meet so many people! After the classes, we have 'freestyle' which means you get to try out all the moves you know and dance with everyone else, be they beginners, advanced or the teachers!

Format of the evening.

The first class starts at 7.30pm, so try to get to the venue five or ten minutes earlier. On arrival, you will be given a quick guide as to the format of the evening and where the bar and cloakroom is! We run a beginners class for 30 minutes and we encourage everyone to participate as it is both a good way for experienced dancers to help beginners and to meet everybody.

After the beginners class, we have 15 minutes of what is called 'freestyle'. This means that you can have a dance to practice the moves from the beginners class or to do your own thing!

At 8.30pm we have another beginners class. We call this our progressive class as we have a teacher dedicated to beginners needs to help you revise the first class and to add extra moves or style to help you bridge the gap between beginners and intermediate.

Also at 8.30pm, whilst the second beginners class is being run, we have an intermediate class.

At 9.00pm, all the classes get wrapped up and we have more freestyle until 10.30pm, perhaps a bit longer if everyone is still up for it :-

Our teachers do not leave the floor all night, so you can ask any of them for advice, for a dance or even take them aside for a chat!

Why are we different?

No Jive Nation teacher leaves the floor until the last beat of the last dance.

Our DJs dance to to their own music. All teachers, every song, all night long, our teachers never, ever leave the floor.

The DJs are passionate about hunting for new tacks, and Jive Nation is about MODERN music - you will always hear our latest HIT PREDICTIONS as we try to forecast what songs are going to the UK No1 Chsrts spot (We were right about Mika, before the radio stations even picked him up!)

Why are we fresh?

You will learn more moves, learn fast, freestyle better with our three hour intensive freestyle and multiple classes for all levels of dancers.

Our music is fresh, funky, we put the Modern back into Jive.
